On June 25, 2014, 12 people who had the same vision met. These people's vision was to do something about the misery and health problems that pregnant women and newborn babies in Puntland, Somalia, experience year after year. Among these 12 people was a recently retired doctor who for many years worked with similar programs in Asia. He worked for WHO. He was head of the WHO's offices in various countries, i.a. Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran. The others in the group are teachers, engineers, bus drivers and nannies.
The idea was that all pregnant women, regardless of where in the region they live, receive continuous health care - both before delivery and after delivery. The program's focus is on the women who live and work in small villages outside the big cities in Puntland. During the first meeting, these 12 people have decided to make the idea a reality by training young girls in the region to work as health workers, thus minimizing child mortality while empowering women. To realize this, it was understood that we in Sweden should contribute resources in the form of expertise and money.
In terms of competence, there is one in the group who is a doctor and who can contribute to the design and follow-up of the training. Regarding the financial part, we thought about calling more people to an information meeting, where we tell them about our vision. On this occasion, we would also ask these if there were any meeting participants who would consider contributing financial resources. It was successful.
At the second meeting we formed this association. We elected a chairman, secretary, three treasurers and an accountant. The association was registered on 26 September 2014 in the Swedish Tax Agency.
